A 7,000-year-old prehistoric mummy, known as “Takarkori” (TK H1), has been returned to Libya after spending over 20 years in Italy. The mummy arrived at Mitiga Airport in Tripoli on Sunday, transported via an Italian military aircraft. Discovered in the Tadrart Acacus region of southern Libya, Takarkori offers a glimpse into the country’s Saharan past. The repatriation signifies a return of a significant cultural artifact to its place of origin. Libyan officials expressed gratitude for Italy’s cooperation in the mummy’s return. The artifact is expected to be a valuable resource for archaeological research and national heritage. Its return marks an important moment for Libya’s cultural preservation efforts.
