The Algerian government has intervened to regulate the potato market due to weeks of rapidly increasing prices. Potato prices in Algeria have surged, exceeding 100 dinars per kilogram and reaching as high as 140 dinars in some markets in Alger. Previously, prices ranged from 50 to 70 dinars. In response to this significant increase, the government has implemented price caps, setting the maximum price between 80 and 90 dinars. This measure aims to stabilize the market and make the essential commodity more affordable for consumers across Algeria. The action comes as a direct response to concerns over the rising cost of this widely consumed product.
