The city of Oradea, Romania, is utilizing artificial intelligence to identify vehicles parked illegally, specifically on sidewalks. Currently in a testing phase set to conclude in June 2026, the system automatically detects violations. Drivers identified through the AI are initially receiving warning notices. However, beginning in July 2026, the system will issue fines ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 Romanian Leu (approximately $440-$550 USD). These fines will be sent directly to the vehicle owner’s address. The initiative aims to improve traffic order and pedestrian safety by deterring illegal parking practices. This represents a novel application of AI technology for traffic enforcement within the country.
