Surging demand from the artificial intelligence sector is driving a boom in related materials, including fiberglass cloth, leading to supply constraints. Taiwan Glass (Taisugar) is responding by investing an additional NT$2 billion (approximately US$62 million) to expand production capacity. This expansion aims to address the current shortages and capitalize on the growing AI market. The company anticipates the new capacity will be operational by 2027. The investment reflects a broader trend of material suppliers struggling to keep pace with the rapid growth of AI-related industries. Shortages are impacting components beyond semiconductors, extending to essential materials like fiberglass used in fiber optic cables. Taisugar’s move signals confidence in the sustained growth of AI and the continued need for its products.
