A recent study reveals that leading AI chatbots – ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, and Copilot – exhibit significant gender bias in their narrative outputs. Analyzing 112 prompts, researchers found a consistent trend: AI consistently assigned men roles focused on ambition, planning, and future prospects. Conversely, female characters were disproportionately described through the lens of emotions, relationships, and caregiving responsibilities. This pattern suggests the AI models are replicating and reinforcing existing societal gender stereotypes present in their training data. The findings highlight a concerning issue of encoded bias within these increasingly prevalent technologies. The study underscores the need for greater awareness and mitigation strategies to address these biases in AI-generated content, preventing the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes. This demonstrates that despite appearing neutral, AI can reflect and amplify historical inequalities.
