The African Union convened an emergency virtual meeting with ten African heads of state and ministers to address the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The meeting focused on securing additional funding to bolster the fight against the disease. Following the discussions, Africa CDC Director General Jean Kaseya announced commitments totaling $910 million. This financial pledge signifies growing concern over the epidemic’s potential impact. The funds will be allocated to support prevention, treatment, and containment efforts within the DRC. This represents a significant step towards strengthening the regional response to the outbreak and mitigating its spread. The Africa CDC will oversee the distribution and implementation of these resources.
