The A2 motorway in Limburg is fully closed in both directions this weekend due to widening works. The closure began Friday evening on the section between St. Joost and Roosteren and extends to junctions Het Vonderen (Echt) and Kerensheide (Urmond), beginning at 9:00 PM. The project aims to add an extra lane in each direction, but the total construction will last for several years. Rijkswaterstaat is monitoring the closure—dubbed “WeekendBreek”—with a liveblog, allowing for continuous day and night work. This weekend’s efforts include the installation of two wildlife crossings. Motorists are being diverted from the St. Joost exit via Echt along the N276, and are urged to avoid travel if possible, as alternative routes are limited in the narrowest part of the Netherlands. This is the second of seven planned weekend closures over the next five years, with the A2 expected to reopen Monday morning at 5:00 AM.
