A new points-based system is impacting drivers in Bangladesh, reducing points on licenses for traffic violations beyond just fines. Each license begins with 12 points, and repeated offenses lead to deductions. If a driver’s points reach zero, their license can be revoked. In June, the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority deducted a total of 78 points from the licenses of 75 drivers due to violations of road transport laws. This system aims to improve road safety by holding drivers accountable for their actions. The point deduction process operates silently alongside traditional penalties like fines and legal cases. This initiative signifies a stricter approach to enforcing traffic regulations and reducing road accidents.
