The victims failed to verify the messages with the purported sender via phone call, leading to financial losses. Authorities previously reported 112 individuals being scammed in August through a fake “Research” survey link. Police strongly advise against transferring money before confirming the request’s legitimacy through direct phone contact with the individual. They also caution against clicking on links offering promotions or providing personal banking information—usernames, passwords, and OTP codes—on suspicious websites. Citizens are urged to avoid engaging with promotional advertisements altogether to prevent becoming victims of these online schemes.
