In October 1976, the building of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) was inaugurated in San Isidro de Vázquez de Coronado. During the opening ceremony, an official from the Organization of American States (OEA) stressed the urgent need for genuine development in Latin America. The OEA representative sharply criticized politicians for offering empty promises instead of concrete progress. This statement highlighted a persistent concern regarding the region’s socio-economic advancement. The event took place specifically in San Isidro de Vázquez de Coronado, a location chosen to symbolize the IICA's commitment to the area. The critique aimed to push for impactful changes beyond mere political rhetoric in Latin America. Fifty years later, the sentiment remains relevant as the region continues to strive for sustainable and equitable growth.
