The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced Tuesday that over 250,000 people have been internally displaced within Yemen since August. This displacement follows the resumption of hostilities between the Saudi-backed Yemeni government and the Iran-aligned Houthis. UNHCR spokesperson Matthew Saltmarsh stated in Geneva the organization is “deeply concerned” about the worsening displacement situation in Yemen. The renewed fighting is causing a significant humanitarian crisis, forcing civilians to flee their homes. The UNHCR is monitoring the situation and working to provide assistance to those affected by the conflict in Yemen. Further details were reported by Hespress, a Moroccan online newspaper.
