Police in Kaakkois-Suomi (Southeastern Finland) report that a woman in Lappeenranta lost tens of thousands of euros in December due to a phishing scam. The victim received a call from an unknown number from someone claiming to be a bank representative. During the call, she disclosed her bank credentials to the caller. Consequently, an unauthorized transfer of 36,000 euros was made from her account. Authorities were able to recover a large portion of the stolen funds from the criminals involved. The police are urging citizens to be vigilant against such fraudulent activities and to never share personal banking information over the phone. This case serves as a reminder of the importance of verifying the identity of callers requesting sensitive information.
