World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized the immense potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) while acknowledging the crucial role of human decision-making in its application. Speaking in Seoul, South Korea, he drew a parallel between AI and a knife, noting that while tools can be used for beneficial purposes like cutting bread, they can also inflict harm. Despite the risks, he stated humans continue to utilize tools like knives. The WHO chief underscored that AI’s potential benefits, particularly within global health, are significant, but responsible implementation is paramount. He stressed that the ethical considerations surrounding AI must be at the forefront as its capabilities expand. Ultimately, the Director-General stated it is up to humanity to determine how AI is wielded and to ensure its deployment serves the greater good.
