An exhibition titled “Great Mammals of the Ice Age” is currently on display at the Museum of the Earth of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Muzeum Ziemi PAN) in Warszawa. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a life-size reconstruction of a forest elephant skeleton, measuring four meters in length and dating back 120,000 years. Remarkably, the fossilized remains of this animal were discovered in the very center of Warszawa. Coinciding with the exhibition, three units of the Polish Academy of Sciences have formed a consortium dedicated to developing the foundations for a future Museum of Natural History. This initiative aims to build upon the interest generated by displays like the elephant skeleton. The skeleton serves as a powerful symbol of Warszawa’s prehistoric past and a preview of what the new museum might offer. The exhibit highlights the rich paleontological history hidden beneath the modern city.
