The University of Ghana is currently experiencing a delay in receiving its Book and Research Allowance. According to Hashmin Mohammed, spokesperson for the Education Minister, the hold-up stems from delays in submitting and validating the necessary documentation. The documents must first be reviewed by the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) before the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) can authorize payment. This issue arises as the government has already begun distributing the allowance to other eligible tertiary institutions in Ghana. A first disbursement of GH¢238 million has been completed for 56 institutions. Mohammed explained the situation in a Facebook post on October 19, 2026. The University of Ghana awaits confirmation once the document verification is complete.
