Ulaanbaatar’s public transport sector is 93% prepared for winter, according to B. Bekhbol, a state inspector from the Public Transport Policy Department. Inspections were conducted between October 5th and 13th on 17 transportation companies operating in Ulaanbaatar, focusing on winter readiness with a 18-point checklist per bus. While Yutong buses received no heating complaints last winter, numerous passengers complained of cold temperatures on Korean buses. Consequently, inspectors paid closer attention to the heating systems on those vehicles. Private companies, such as “Erdem Trans” which operates over 70 Korean buses, are installing additional heaters; 30 buses have already been upgraded, with the remaining 40 scheduled for upgrades before the onset of cold weather. During the inspections, deficiencies were addressed immediately, and approximately 1,170 buses serve Ulaanbaatar residents daily, though overcrowding remains a concern for commuters.
