Ukraine’s energy company, Naftogaz, has received court approval to seize five Russian-owned properties in Oslo. This action stems from a pursuit of Russian assets following the 2014 annexation of Crimea. The total claim against the Russian Federation amounts to 57 billion Norwegian kroner, including interest and legal expenses, according to Naftogaz’s lawyers. This claim originates from a 2023 arbitration ruling in The Hague concerning assets lost when Russia annexed Crimea. The seizure represents the first step towards a potential forced sale of these properties. The company is seeking compensation for the facilities it lost during the period. This move signifies a continued effort to hold Russia accountable for its actions in Crimea.
