The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has strongly criticized the newly launched National Data Strategy, deeming it “illegal,” “irregular,” and “redundant.” The rebuke came swiftly after the roadmap’s unveiling at a high-level event in Kampala, Uganda. UBOS asserts the strategy provides no added value to the existing National Statistical System. This rejection represents a significant disagreement between the statistical authority and the ICT Ministry, which spearheaded the strategy’s development. The bureau views the launch as an encroachment on its mandated responsibilities concerning data management and national statistics. The Independent Uganda reported on the conflict, highlighting the unusual public condemnation from one governmental body to another. This dispute raises concerns about coordination and efficiency in Uganda’s data infrastructure.
