Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Monday that it may be time for Ukraine to involve someone other than President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in peace negotiations with Russia to end the ongoing war. Trump previously urged Ukrainians to consider replacing their president on October 10th. He also indicated the U.S. administration is considering allowing Ukrainians currently in the U.S. with “temporary protected status” to remain until the conflict concludes, while continuing to share intelligence with Ukraine. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio refuted reports claiming intelligence sharing with Ukraine had been curtailed, emphasizing the focus should be on ending the war, stating there had been “no pause” in intelligence exchange during a meeting with journalists in Uzbekistan. This comes after Zelenskyy accused the U.S. administration of temporarily halting warnings about Russian ballistic missile strikes. Tensions have escalated between Trump and Zelenskyy, partly due to Trump’s decision to lift sanctions potentially enabling a diesel fuel deal with Russia, while Zelenskyy reported over 550,000 households in Ukraine lost power following Russian airstrikes on energy infrastructure.
