Activists and grassroots leaders in Thailand convened a press conference on October 21st to draw attention to ongoing human rights concerns. The briefing was held in anticipation of Thailand’s upcoming Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in Geneva, a UN mechanism evaluating member states’ human rights records every four years. Organised by the Bangkok-based organization Manushya, the event focused on issues present in multiple areas of Thailand. The activists aimed to highlight these persistent problems during the UPR process. The UPR offers an opportunity for international scrutiny of Thailand’s human rights situation. Details of the specific concerns raised were published by Khaosod English. The review will take place in Geneva, Switzerland.
