Vinted has removed listings for products suspected of being stolen during widespread protests in France on Saturday. The online resale platform increased monitoring of suspicious advertisements following reports of break-ins at retailers like Sephora and looting at luxury brands including Céline, Louis Vuitton, and Hermès. French media reported some sellers explicitly mentioned the date of the protests – October 17 – or the stolen nature of the goods in their listings. France’s Minister for Digital Affairs, Le Hénanff, has urged platforms like Amazon, eBay, and Vinted to remove the advertisements immediately and cooperate with authorities to identify and prosecute sellers. Vinted stated it is collaborating with French authorities and has taken “immediate action,” potentially banning rule-breaking accounts. The company says it is committed to preventing the sale of stolen merchandise on its platform.
