The village of Ubľa, located just before the Ukrainian border in the Prešov Region, experienced a surge in population in 2022 with the arrival of Ukrainian refugees and supporting volunteers. Today, however, the village is largely deserted as these individuals have moved on, a departure met with relief by many locals. A billboard displaying Marian Kotleba, leader of the ĽSNS party, remains a visible yet fading presence in the community. Current frontrunners in the regional elections include Milan Majerský, the chairman of KDH and current župan, and MEP Milan Mazurek from the Republic party. A local resident, Beáta, 34, admits to largely avoiding news and showing limited interest in political matters. The story highlights a shift in the atmosphere of Ubľa, reflecting both the ebb of the immediate refugee crisis and prevailing attitudes toward politics within the Prešov Region.
