Slovakia’s public finances are projected to continue struggling with a high deficit and increasing debt even through 2027, according to a report by the Najvyšší kontrolný úrad (NKÚ). The audit sharply criticizes the current fiscal trajectory, highlighting that despite three rounds of consolidation measures, the public administration deficit is expected to reach €7.4 billion in 2027, representing 4.94 percent of GDP. This substantial deficit will significantly limit funding for key priorities within Slovakia. The NKÚ’s assessment casts doubt on the government’s ability to achieve fiscal recovery. Despite initial announcements promising a balanced budget after four years, the report suggests that goal remains distant. The continued high deficit poses challenges to the financial stability of Slovakia. This situation requires further scrutiny and potential adjustments to existing fiscal policies.
