A new app prototype, called LetsGo, is being developed in Singapore to assist diners with visual impairment at local hawker centres. The app utilizes the phone’s camera; when pointed at a table, it audibly announces whether the table is “occupied” or “empty”. This innovation addresses a common challenge faced by visually impaired individuals navigating the often-crowded and fast-paced environment of Singaporean hawker centres. The project was conceived as part of an inaugural challenge focused on innovative solutions. LetsGo aims to promote greater independence and inclusivity for visually impaired diners. Further development and testing are anticipated to refine the app’s functionality and usability. The creators hope LetsGo will become a valuable tool for enhancing the dining experience for everyone in Singapore.
