What initially appears as a skin condition, shingles (or *giời leo* as it’s known in Vietnam), can result in lingering, burning pain originating from within. This pain can persist long after the visible rash has healed, significantly disrupting sleep, daily life, and overall quality of life for those affected. The condition, known as postherpetic neuralgia, involves a deep, aching discomfort. Patients often experience prolonged and debilitating sensations. These chronic symptoms highlight the need for comprehensive management of shingles and its potential complications, extending beyond simply treating the initial outbreak. Early intervention may help mitigate the risk of long-term pain and associated mental health issues like depression.
