Residents of Rilland, in the province of Zeeland, have been experiencing significant disruptions to their mail delivery for weeks, with some going three weeks without receiving any post or receiving incorrect mail. The issues stem from changes made by PostNL, which consolidated local depots, including the one in Rilland, with a more distant facility in Krabbendijke. This consolidation resulted in a 20-minute round trip for the three regular postal workers in Rilland to collect mail, a journey they had to make on standard bicycles without compensation for electric bike assistance. Consequently, all three postal workers simultaneously resigned from their positions. Locals expressed concern over missing important documents and subscriptions, such as bills and magazines like the Libelle. PostNL acknowledges the problems and states that extra travel time for postal workers is compensated, but residents feel the situation is unacceptable.
