Romania’s proposed Minister of Education and Research, Sorin Costreie, has described the knife attack at a school in Bistrița as a “horrifying” situation, categorizing it as a case of “radicalization.” The attack was carried out by a seventh-grade student against a teacher and a classmate. Costreie stated he will request information from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) to determine why no preventative measures were taken prior to the incident. He indicated there were reportedly warning signs before the attack occurred. The Minister aims to understand why these signals weren’t addressed and what systemic failures may have contributed to the violence in Bistrița. This request underscores a focus on preventative measures and addressing potential radicalization within the education system.
