Websites worldwide are gradually returning online after a security update was implemented for the PHP programming language around 4 PM. Many organizations proactively took their websites offline due to significant vulnerabilities discovered in PHP, a widely-used programming language. The vulnerabilities threatened data security, prompting the swift action. Several Dutch organizations, including RTL, Tweakers, hospitals, and municipalities, experienced outages. Internationally, government websites in België, Finland, Frankrijk, and Duitsland were also affected, although the website of the Finnish government was restored around 5 PM. Despite the update, potential issues remain, such as server overload from high update demand, but the chances of prolonged outages are considered low, according to the PHP Foundation. Crucially, websites like mijn.overheid.nl, DigiD, and the Tweede Kamer remain unavailable.
