The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has requested responses from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and police officials, including the Inspector General, regarding the detention of former provincial chief executive Sohail Afridi and other leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI). Afridi has been missing since the imposition of governor’s rule and emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on October 11. The PTI alleges that several of its members, including lawmakers and ministers such as Babar Saleem Swati, Junaid Akbar, Dr Amjid Ali, Amjid Ali Khan, Ikramullah, Aurangzeb Khan, and Muhammad Khalid Khursheed, are also being detained. The government has not disclosed the whereabouts of those detained. Petitions filed in the PHC prompted a hearing scheduled for November 3, where respondents must submit their replies. Afridi’s brother, Muhammad Aamir, alleges his brother was "abducted" from the Chief Minister’s House and seeks a court order for his recovery and a review of the legality of his custody.
