Peru’s banking, insurance, and pensions regulator, the SBS (Superintendencia de Banca, Seguros y AFP), announced forthcoming changes to pension fund management. Superintendent Sergio Espinosa stated a new regulation will be published in November, enabling AFPs (Administradoras de Fondos de Pensiones) to offer updated products to their affiliates. This move is contingent on preventing further withdrawals from the AFP system. Espinosa indicated the new products aim to revitalize the pension system and potentially attract new competitors if additional withdrawals are avoided. The SBS hopes these changes will strengthen the system and provide more options for pensioners. The regulation’s details will be unveiled next month and are expected to significantly impact Peru’s pension landscape.
