A man in Pakistan has been arrested for a large-scale fraud that cost the U.S. Postal Service over $126 million. Faheem Akram, 33, was apprehended after a week-long manhunt by Pakistani authorities and has been indicted in Florida. Akram operated a website selling counterfeit shipping labels to thousands of customers for a flat fee of $2, regardless of package size or destination. These labels allowed customers to ship items at prices far below the standard U.S. Postal Service rates. American investigators determined the fraudulent website was active from August 2023 to September of this year. Akram reportedly used sixteen different bank accounts, including those belonging to his brother, wife, and aunt, to facilitate the scheme. It remains unclear whether Akram will be extradited to the United States or prosecuted in Pakistan.
