The academic future of final-year and second-year students at Obuasi Senior High and Technical School (SHTS) in Ghana is in jeopardy as the school remains closed nearly three months after a student riot. Obuasi SHTS was closed on August 5th following an order from the municipal assembly due to a disturbance where students allegedly attacked Headmaster Zakaria Abdulai. The unrest stemmed from allegations of sexual abuse involving female students. Despite the start of the new academic calendar for senior high schools, continuing students at Obuasi SHTS have not yet resumed academic activities. This closure leaves students facing uncertainty as they prepare for their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE). The prolonged shutdown raises concerns about the students’ preparation and overall academic progress ahead of critical exams.
