The Catholic Archdiocese of New York has approved a settlement worth approximately 8 billion Norwegian kroner (around $800 million USD) for victims of sexual abuse perpetrated by clergy. The New York Times reports that each of the roughly 1300 victims will receive at least $250,000, with some receiving larger amounts based on the severity of the abuse. This settlement follows investigative journalism that exposed widespread abuse within the Catholic Church affecting thousands of children. Several dioceses across the USA have already been compelled to pay millions in compensation as a result of these revelations. The agreement will be formally signed in November. This marks a significant step towards accountability for the Catholic Archdiocese of New York regarding past misconduct.
