Despite initial forecasts of a change in leadership in Nové Město na Moravě, incumbent Mayor Michal Šmarda of the “Lepší Nové Město” (Better New Town) group will remain in office. Although his position appeared unstable following the elections after sixteen years in power, a shift in power did not materialize. The winning coalition “Jedno Město” (One Town), securing eight out of 23 seats, will instead move to the opposition. Šmarda’s continuation as mayor defies the election results, sending the winning group into an unexpected role. Furthermore, Šmarda still retains a possibility of competing for a seat in the Senate. The situation highlights a complex political dynamic within Nové Město na Moravě following the local elections.
