The Netherlands has achieved its minimum gas storage target to ensure sufficient supply through the winter season. According to Energiebeheer Nederland (EBN), gas storage facilities are currently 64 percent full, meeting the minimum requirement set by the European Union. The push to bolster gas reserves was initiated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate two months prior, due to record-high gas prices exacerbated by the conflict in the Middle East. Initially aiming for 80 percent capacity, the Netherlands had to lower its target to 64 percent after reaching only 45 percent in August. Further filling of storage facilities is anticipated, with Gasunie reporting current levels at 65.5 percent. This ensures the Nederland is prepared for the upcoming winter months despite ongoing global energy market volatility.
