Following days of unrest, 271 young people were arrested in Milan after clashes with police during demonstrations against the rising cost of living, high rents, and deteriorating public services. Masked rioters confronted police, throwing stones, looting shops including Decathlon, Arc'teryx, and Vodafone near Piazza del Duomo, and setting fire to trash containers. Police responded with tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowds. The Italian government has announced stricter security measures and a state of emergency decree following the violence, with Premier Meloni promising a firm response. Fourteen police officers sustained injuries during the disturbances, and of those arrested, 220 were minors, with 32 remaining in custody. Similar, though smaller, demonstrations and clashes with police occurred in Bologna, Brescia, and Turin, resulting in 28 additional arrests across those cities.
