The Appeal Court in Ulaanbaatar has overturned a life sentence given to M.Batchuluun, who was initially convicted of murdering a young child and a pregnant woman. The original ruling, made by a lower court on May 6, 2026, found M.Batchuluun guilty of intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, resulting in the deaths of a child named Ar and a pregnant woman named M, as well as harming another child named Az. The prosecution had charged M.Batchuluun under articles 2.8 of the General Part and 10.1 of the Special Part of the Criminal Code. The Appeal Court determined that the lower court had incorrectly applied the law regarding the actions against the pregnant woman, M, failing to properly categorize the offense under sections 2.1 and 2.7 of subsection 2 of article 10.1 of the Special Part of the Criminal Code. M.Batchuluun had filed an appeal claiming innocence, which the Appeal Court has now partially granted by correcting the legal classification of the charges.
