Latvian authorities continue to aggressively target drunk drivers, with approximately 50 arrests made each week across Latvia. Despite a decrease in incidents following stricter penalties implemented in late 2022, 2,250 drivers have been apprehended for driving under the influence in the first nine months of the current year. As a consequence of these arrests, over 500 vehicles have been seized from offenders. Zemgale Television reported these findings on October 19, highlighting ongoing enforcement efforts. The data suggests that despite improvements, drunk driving remains a significant issue on Latvian roads. Authorities aim to deter this dangerous behaviour through consistent enforcement and vehicle confiscation.
