Britain’s King Charles III has sent gardening books and a letter to detained former leader Aung San Suu Kyi in Myanmar. The delivery occurred on Monday, October 19th, in Myanmar’s capital, Naypyitaw, according to the Presidential Press and Information Bureau. Myanmar’s military-backed government released rare photographs documenting the delivery of the books and sealed correspondence. The gesture represents a rare point of contact with Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been detained since the military coup in February 2021. Details regarding the content of the correspondence haven’t been disclosed. This delivery is significant as it marks one of the few confirmed interactions with the ousted leader since her detention began in Myanmar. The release of the photographs was reported by Khaosod English.
