A seventy-meter skip shaft tower formerly belonging to the ČSA Mine in Karviná has been demolished after standing for over sixty years. The concrete structure, located on the outskirts of the city, was leveled by explosives at 9:00 AM Wednesday. While the entire mine complex is slated for closure, preservationists aim to safeguard portions of the mine's history. Efforts are underway to preserve two remaining shaft towers, engine halls, and associated miner facilities. A final decision regarding the protection of other buildings and equipment within the former shaft is still pending. This demolition marks the end of a mining landmark in Karviná.
