Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is actively employing weather modification techniques, specifically dry ice seeding, to address the widespread haze caused by fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan. The initiative aims to trigger rainfall and dampen the ongoing blazes, which have significantly degraded air quality across the region. Dry ice is being dispersed into cloud formations to encourage condensation and precipitation, effectively fighting the fires at their source. BMKG is focusing efforts on areas experiencing the most severe smoke pollution. The agency continues to monitor weather patterns and adjust its seeding operations based on evolving conditions in Sumatra and Kalimantan. This intervention is a critical step to mitigate the health and environmental impacts of the fires. The success of this method will depend on favorable atmospheric conditions and consistent cloud cover.
