Imports into Paraguay experienced a significant surge in August, growing by 31.7% and marking the largest annual increase recorded so far this year. This growth was largely driven by a near tripling of fuel purchases compared to August 2025. Consequently, Paraguay’s trade deficit for the month expanded substantially, increasing by 68% to reach US$2.770,4 million FOB. The substantial rise in import values, particularly in the fuel sector, has had a considerable impact on the country’s trade balance. Economists are analyzing the factors contributing to this surge, including potential shifts in global commodity prices and domestic demand. This development may necessitate a reevaluation of Paraguay’s trade policies and economic strategies to mitigate the widening trade deficit. Further data is expected to provide a clearer picture of the sustained trends in Paraguay’s import and export activities.
