The parents of five-year-old Lai Sum-yuet are suing Hong Kong’s Hospital Authority (HA) following her death last year. The civil suit, filed at the District Court last Thursday, alleges negligence related to treatment the girl received for a head injury. At the time of treatment, Lai Sum-yuet was four years old and received stitches at Yan Chai Hospital. Details of the alleged negligence have not yet been released, but the parents are seeking damages through the legal action. The Hospital Authority has yet to respond to the suit. This case raises concerns regarding the standard of care provided at public hospitals in Hong Kong.
