Germany’s Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party confirmed it was targeted by a cyberattack resulting in the leak of over 421,000 emails from its members. The breach, detected and neutralized according to the party, involved emails—mostly older ones—from a third-party hosting provider. German news outlet Bild reported the scale of the leak and a website published summaries of the emails, triggering an ongoing investigation by the AfD. While the party claims the leak did not affect federal officials, Bild reported emails from co-leader Alice Weidel and a parliamentarian’s ID card were exposed. The AfD has seen rising electoral success, recently achieving record results in regional elections in September, particularly in Sachsen-Anhalt, and is currently leading national polls. The incident comes as the party hopes to form its first regional government in Germany's Saxony-Anhalt.
