A Florida judge has issued a state arrest warrant for former Cuban President Raúl Castro. Chief Judge Ariana Fajardo Orshan of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida ordered the detention. Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed Castro is accused of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. The charges stem from the 1996 downing of two humanitarian aircraft – Hermanos al Rescate – piloted by Cuban-Americans. The planes were shot down by Cuban Air Force MiG fighters while flying over international waters. This development marks a significant legal action taken within Florida concerning the incident. Further legal proceedings and potential extradition efforts remain to be seen.
