Sheikh Abjalul Haque, a former Sub-Inspector of Ashulia Police Station and a state witness in a case related to the burning of six protestors’ bodies during the July Movement in Ashulia, has been released. This marks the first acquittal of a suspect in any case stemming from the July Movement. The International Crimes Tribunal-2 acquitted him on February 5th. He was subsequently released from Kashimpur Central Jail-2 in Gazipur on October 13th. The case centered on charges of crimes against humanity related to the deaths of the protestors. Haque’s testimony appears to have been instrumental in the tribunal’s decision. This acquittal may set a precedent for other cases connected to the July Movement.
