Stephen Fleming, the New Zealander coaching England’s test team, expressed his belief that future coaches should be English nationals. While acknowledging his own position as a foreign coach – the fifth to lead the team, following appointments from New Zealand, Australia, and Zimbabwe – Fleming stated his intention to cultivate local coaching talent during his time. He highlighted the recent inclusion of former England players Marcus Trescothick, Richard Dawson, and James Foster in his support staff as a step in this direction. Fleming also emphasized the need for a collaborative relationship with Brendon McCullum, who continues to coach England’s limited-overs squad, especially with the upcoming Ashes and Cricket World Cup. He noted upcoming challenges, including a test series against South Africa and preparing players for key events. England is scheduled to tour South Africa for a three-test series starting in December.
