During the first days of the “Egypt 2026 Forum,” the Minister of Youth and Sports, Gouhar Nabiil, highlighted governmental investments in youth and sports infrastructure during a session titled “Youth and Sports: From Providing Opportunities to Creating Impact.” He stated that over 31 billion Egyptian pounds have been spent on these facilities, encompassing a total of 4382 youth centers, 129 speech therapy centers for individuals with needs, 23 sports stadiums, 40,000 youth center leagues, 12 youth and sports cities, and 4566 additional facilities. The presentation formed part of the government’s review of its accomplishments. However, the discussion also raised questions about whether these investments translate into increased participation in sports and youth activities, particularly in villages across Egypt. The focus remains on assessing if these investments are truly providing opportunities or if youth engagement is declining despite increased access. The article originally appeared on Mada Masr.
