A thousand municipalities in the Czech Republic are facing an immediate threat from drought, according to a list compiled by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). The Ministry of the Environment has allocated 500 million Czech crowns from the State Environmental Fund to address the situation. These funds will primarily be used for measures designed to retain water within the landscape. Municipalities may also be eligible for additional subsidies from the Ministry of Agriculture, such as for water pipeline projects like the one planned in Tučapy, Táborsko. The government aims to mitigate the effects of the drought through water conservation efforts and infrastructure improvements. These measures are crucial for ensuring water security in affected regions. This funding represents a proactive step to combat escalating water scarcity issues.
