Helsingin Sanomat is investigating whether the art of picking up people in bars is disappearing in Finland, as dating apps become increasingly popular. The publication seeks individuals willing to demonstrate their flirting skills in Helsinki’s nightlife. The investigation aims to explore if traditional face-to-face interactions are being replaced by digital methods of finding companionship. Helsingin Sanomat wants to observe and report on successful (and unsuccessful) attempts at charming potential partners in real-world settings. Participants are invited to showcase their ability to connect with others in person within the vibrant nightlife of Helsinki. This report will examine the current state of dating and courtship in a digitally-driven world, specifically within the context of bars in Helsinki. Ultimately, the project seeks to determine if the “art of the pickup” remains a relevant social practice.
